Is your piano in tune?

PianoAudit is a free app for iPhone and Android that measures the pitch of every note on a piano and tells you, in plain language, whether it needs tuning. It calculates the ideal tuning curve for your particular piano from its inharmonicity and shows how far each note is from it.

What the free version does

Measuring a piano is free, with no account and no ads. The audio is analyzed on the phone and never leaves it.

Measure all 88 notes

Play through the keyboard and PianoAudit measures the pitch and inharmonicity of each note and plots it on the graph as you go. Notes are detected automatically.

See the tuning curve

Every piano needs a slightly different tuning, because the inharmonicity of its strings sets how much the octaves should be stretched. PianoAudit calculates that target curve for your piano and plots each measured note against it, with the acceptable band drawn in.

Get a verdict

The result is a one-line verdict such as “In good tune — no tuning needed now” or “A pitch correction and a full tuning are recommended,” with the numbers behind it on the same screen.

For piano technicians

PianoAudit Pro is for showing the customer what the tuning did. Measure the piano before you tune and again afterward, and the app produces a one-page PDF with both curves on one graph, the before and after numbers, and your business name and contact details in the header. You tune with whatever you already use; PianoAudit measures and writes the report.

Pricing

PianoAudit has three levels. The free version is enough to measure a piano and find out whether it needs tuning. Plus is for owners and teachers who want to keep a history and compare sessions, and Pro adds the customer report for technicians. Plus and Pro are unlocked through in-app purchases, and the tiers are the same on iPhone and Android.
